Hotjar Pricing in 2026: Every Plan After the Contentsquare Merger, Plus a Dedicated Feedback Alternative

If you search "Hotjar pricing" today, you land on a Contentsquare page. As of July 1, 2025, Hotjar Ltd. (Malta) merged into the Contentsquare Group, and hotjar.com now redirects visitors straight to Contentsquare-branded signup, pricing, and marketing pages. There's no separate Hotjar checkout anymore, and the pricing question has quietly become a Contentsquare pricing question.

Formbricks open-source feedback and experience management platform

That merger matters for anyone comparing costs, because Hotjar's heatmaps, recordings, and surveys are now three features inside a much bigger behavior-analytics suite: Experience Analytics, Voice of Customer, and Product Analytics. I've pulled apart what each plan actually includes, what's still free, and where the pricing page still won't give you a straight answer.

I believe the merged Hotjar/Contentsquare product is the right call if:

  • You want heatmaps, session replay, and surveys bundled into one behavior-analytics suite
  • You're comfortable being a smaller account inside a larger enterprise-focused platform
  • You want a generous free session quota and don't need deep survey logic or targeting

It's a weaker fit if:

  • You need a dedicated, purpose-built in-app survey or feedback platform rather than a bolt-on feature
  • You require self-hosting or data residency guarantees for compliance reasons
  • You want transparent, self-serve USD pricing without a euro-priced tier or a sales call for anything past entry-level

Because of that, I've included a full comparison with Formbricks later in this breakdown, since surveys are Formbricks' core product rather than one feature among many.

Free Plan: What You Get Today vs. What Hotjar Used to Offer

FeatureDetails
Price€0/month
Sessions200k/month
Projects1
Core FeaturesReplays, Heatmaps + Funnels
MonitoringError & performance monitoring
SurveysBasic surveys (100 survey responses/month, 5 user interviews/month)
AIConnect with LLMs via MCP

The current Free plan is dramatically more generous than the standalone Hotjar Free plan it replaced. Contentsquare's own comparison table puts the old Hotjar Free plan at 35 sessions per day and 20 survey responses per month with only 2 integrations, no error monitoring, no performance monitoring, and no funnels at all. The new merged Free plan raises session volume by what Contentsquare's own page calls "190x more," adds error and performance monitoring, and includes 10+ integrations like Slack, Jira, and Unbounce.

Free Plan
ProsCons
✅ 200k monthly sessions, up from 35/day❌ Only 1 project
✅ Error and performance monitoring included❌ Surveys capped at 100 responses/month
✅ 10+ integrations, no credit card required❌ No self-hosting or data residency option
✅ Includes a 15-day Growth plan trial❌ Basic surveys only, no advanced logic

The Bottom Line: The Free plan is a real upgrade over legacy Hotjar, but its survey allowance (100 responses/month) is still a feature bolted onto a heatmap product, not something built for a dedicated feedback program.

Growth Plan: The Only Paid Tier With a Public Number

FeatureDetails
Price€39/month
SessionsFrom 7k monthly sessions
Projects3
Data Access13-month data retention
Added FeaturesZone-based heatmaps, journey analysis, impact quantification
AISense Chat & AI summaries

Growth is the only plan above Free with a published number, and even that number comes with two catches. First, it's priced in euros on Hotjar's own page, not dollars. Second, a G2 vendor-submitted pricing table separately lists the same plan at "$39.00," but since no USD figure appears anywhere on Contentsquare's own site, treat that as a rough cross-check rather than a confirmed dollar price.

Growth Plan
ProsCons
✅ Only paid tier with a public price❌ Priced in EUR, no confirmed USD figure
✅ 3 projects and 13-month data access❌ Session threshold is vague ("from 7k")
✅ Zone-based heatmaps and journey analysis❌ No published survey response cap
✅ Sense Chat AI summaries included❌ Still a feature inside a broader analytics suite

The Bottom Line: Growth is the entry point for teams that want to move past the Free plan's limits, but budgeting in USD requires either accepting the EUR price or trusting a third-party conversion.

Pro Plan: Contact Sales

FeatureDetails
PriceCustom, contact sales
SessionsFrom 1M+ monthly sessions
ProjectsUp to 6
Added FeaturesPrecision & retroactive filtering, multi-session replay summaries
Revenue ToolsRevenue goals & tracking

Pro is where session volume jumps to a million or more per month, and where Contentsquare adds retroactive filtering (applying new filters to sessions already captured) and revenue goal tracking. None of this has a public number.

Pro Plan
ProsCons
✅ Handles 1M+ monthly sessions❌ No published price anywhere
✅ Retroactive filtering across past sessions❌ Requires a sales conversation to get a quote
✅ Revenue goals and tracking built in❌ No self-serve upgrade path from Growth
✅ Up to 6 projects❌ Budget planning requires guesswork

The Bottom Line: Pro is built for teams with real session volume, but you can't put a number on it without talking to sales first.

Enterprise Plan: Contact Sales

FeatureDetails
PriceCustom, contact sales
SessionsCustom monthly sessions
ProjectsUnlimited
Added FeaturesExperience monitoring, error summaries, data feeds
SupportDedicated support & SLAs

Enterprise removes the project cap entirely and adds data feeds plus dedicated support with SLAs. As with Pro, there's no rate card, no calculator, and no public starting price.

Enterprise Plan
ProsCons
✅ Unlimited projects❌ Fully custom, quote-only pricing
✅ Dedicated support and SLAs❌ No self-hosting option even at this tier
✅ Experience monitoring and data feeds❌ Session volume negotiated per contract
✅ Built for large, multi-brand accounts❌ Longest sales cycle of any tier

The Bottom Line: Enterprise is for organizations already committed to Contentsquare's full analytics stack, not teams evaluating survey tools on a budget.

Where Hotjar Pricing Falls Short

No Longer an Independent Product

  • New signups and pricing route through Contentsquare's platform, not a standalone "Hotjar" account
  • This changes the buying motion for anyone who specifically wants a lightweight, dedicated tool rather than an enterprise analytics suite
  • The Hotjar brand persists mostly as a redirect and a landing page, not a separate product line

Two Tiers With No Public Price

  • Pro and Enterprise both require a sales conversation before you see a number
  • Session thresholds for paid tiers are vague ("from 7k," "from 1M+") rather than fixed caps you can plan around
  • Budget-stage evaluators can't get even a ballpark figure for two of the four plans

Pricing Displayed in EUR, Not USD

  • Hotjar's own pricing page (via Contentsquare) shows Growth at €39/month with no USD-denominated figure anywhere on the vendor's site
  • A G2 vendor-submitted table separately lists "$39.00," but this isn't a price Hotjar itself publishes
  • US-based buyers have to either accept the EUR price or estimate a conversion themselves

No Self-Hosting or Data Residency Path

  • The pricing page describes only cloud-hosted plans, with no self-hosted or customer-premises deployment mentioned at any tier
  • This is disqualifying for regulated buyers who need on-prem or region-locked deployment
  • No amount of budget gets you a different answer here

Surveys Are a Secondary Feature, Not the Product

  • Feedback collection sits inside "Voice of Customer," one of three product areas alongside Experience Analytics and Product Analytics
  • The Free plan's survey allowance (100 responses/month) is a small slice of a much larger session-based pricing model
  • Teams that specifically need a dedicated in-app survey and feedback platform are buying a heatmap tool that happens to include one

Formbricks: An Open Feedback and Experience Management Suite

Formbricks isn't a heatmap tool with surveys bolted on. It's an open source feedback and experience management suite built around three things: feedback management, feedback analytics, and workflows and integrations, published transparently on every tier rather than gated behind a "contact sales" wall.

Feedback Management. Formbricks unifies website surveys, in-app surveys, link surveys, and branded email surveys on one platform. Where Hotjar's survey widget is one feature inside a session-analytics product, feedback collection is the entire point of Formbricks.

Feedback Analytics. Every response, regardless of channel, flows into one dashboard. You can follow individual responses, zoom out for the aggregate view, track partial and dropped-off submissions, and segment by custom attributes rather than broadcasting the same survey to everyone.

Workflows and Integrations. Formbricks Workflows automate what happens after a response comes in, no separate product to buy. Native integrations connect to Salesforce, HubSpot, Slack, Google Sheets, and Notion through webhooks and a free, unrestricted API available on every tier, including the self-hosted Community Edition.

Formbricks Hobby Plan: Free Forever

FeatureDetails
Price$0
Workspaces1
Responses250/month (cloud)
API AccessFull, including MCP
HostingFrankfurt, Germany

Unlike Hotjar's Free plan, where surveys are capped at 100 responses/month as a fraction of a much larger session allowance, Formbricks Hobby is survey-first from the start, with the full API and MCP connection included on day one.

Hobby Plan
ProsCons
✅ Full API access, no restrictions❌ 250 responses/month cap
✅ Hosted in Frankfurt (EU data residency)❌ 1 workspace only
✅ Every core survey feature included❌ Formbricks branding shown
✅ Free forever, no trial clock❌ No team collaboration features

The Bottom Line: Hobby is built for testing and small feedback programs, with the same API access every paid tier gets above it.

Formbricks Pro Plan: $89/month (or $74/month billed annually)

FeatureDetails
Price$89/month, or $74/month billed annually ($890/year)
Workspaces3
Responses2,000/month
Added FeaturesAttribute-based segmentation, unlimited seats, remove branding
IntegrationsAll integrations, email follow-ups, custom webhooks, iOS/Android SDKs

Pro adds unlimited team seats, respondent identification, and attribute-based segmentation, letting you target surveys like "show this to power users who haven't seen one in 10 days" rather than a flat, one-size-fits-all trigger.

Pro Plan
ProsCons
✅ Transparent published price on both billing cycles❌ Cloud deployment only at this tier
✅ Attribute-based segmentation included❌ 2,000 response cap (overage available)
✅ Unlimited team seats❌ 3 workspaces
✅ All native integrations and webhooks❌ No dedicated SLA yet

The Bottom Line: Pro is where a real, ongoing feedback program lives, with monthly or annual billing published up front instead of a sales call.

Formbricks Scale Plan: $390/month (or $325/month billed annually)

FeatureDetails
Price$390/month, or $325/month billed annually ($3,900/year)
Workspaces5
Responses5,000/month
Added FeaturesTeams & access roles, quota management
Enterprise Add-onsFeedback unification, AI topic labeling, custom dashboards, 2FA, spam protection

Scale is the highest published, self-serve tier, with optional enterprise add-ons like AI-powered topic and subtopic labeling, custom dashboards, and two-factor authentication available by request rather than a mandatory upgrade to a fully custom contract.

Scale Plan
ProsCons
✅ Highest tier with a real, self-serve price❌ 5,000 response cap (overage available)
✅ Quota management and access roles❌ Enterprise add-ons require a separate contact form
✅ AI topic labeling available as an add-on❌ 5 workspaces
✅ Still monthly or annual, no forced annual contract❌ Custom pricing above this tier

The Bottom Line: Scale covers most growing teams' needs, with a published path up before anyone has to enter a quote-only conversation.

Formbricks Self-Hosting: Community and Enterprise Editions

FeatureDetails
Community EditionOpen source, free, unlimited surveys and responses
Enterprise EditionContact us, adds SSO (SAML/OIDC), multi-language surveys, whitelabel, support SLAs
LicenseAGPLv3
Data ControlData never leaves your own infrastructure

This is where the comparison to Hotjar's pricing page stops being close. Hotjar/Contentsquare's own security documentation describes cloud-only, centrally-hosted infrastructure at every tier, Free through Enterprise. Formbricks' Community Edition is free, open source under AGPLv3, and puts your survey data entirely on your own infrastructure, with the Enterprise Edition adding SSO and support SLAs on top for teams that need them.

What Reviewers Say About Hotjar

Hotjar holds a 4.3 rating across 345 reviews on G2, where the listing is now titled "Hotjar by Contentsquare" post-merger.

Hotjar Reviews
ProsCons
✅ Heatmaps and session recordings make behavior fast to understand❌ Free-plan limitations restrict access to deeper features
✅ Easy setup via Google Tag Manager❌ Filtering and reporting feel inflexible at large session volumes
✅ Generally strong support❌ Can feel slow on bigger datasets

Feature Value Breakdown

Pricing Transparency

Hotjar's Approach: Two of four tiers (Free and Growth) have a public price, and even Growth is shown only in EUR. Pro and Enterprise require a sales conversation with no rate card to reference.

Formbricks' Approach: Every tier, Hobby through Scale, is published in USD with both monthly and annual pricing shown up front.

Value Verdict: Formbricks wins. This reflects the brief's own dimension rating (Hotjar 3/5 stars, Formbricks 5/5 stars): Formbricks publishes exact self-serve dollar tiers, while Hotjar gates its top two plans behind sales and prices its one paid public tier in euros only.

Free Tier Generosity for a Dedicated Survey Use Case

Hotjar's Approach: The Free plan bundles 100 survey responses per month as one feature among heatmaps, recordings, error monitoring, and funnels.

Formbricks' Approach: The Hobby plan is survey-first, with 250 responses/month and full API/MCP access built for feedback collection specifically, not as a side feature.

Value Verdict: Roughly comparable, with a slight edge to Formbricks (brief rating: Hotjar 3/5, Formbricks 4/5). This is a judgment call rather than a strict apples-to-apples response count, since the two products aren't solving the same core problem.

Self-Hosting and Data Residency

Hotjar's Approach: Cloud-only per Contentsquare's own pricing and security pages, at every tier from Free to Enterprise.

Formbricks' Approach: A free, self-hosted Community Edition under AGPLv3, plus Formbricks Cloud hosted in Frankfurt for teams that want managed EU hosting without self-hosting complexity.

Value Verdict: Formbricks wins decisively (brief rating: Hotjar 1/5, Formbricks 5/5). For any buyer with a data residency or compliance requirement, Hotjar has no path at any price.

Depth as a Dedicated In-App Survey Tool

Hotjar's Approach: Surveys are secondary to heatmaps and session replay, reflected in a survey allowance that's a fraction of the plan's headline session count.

Formbricks' Approach: Purpose-built for feedback management, feedback analytics, and workflows as its core product, with attribute-based targeting, segmentation, and a full API on every tier.

Value Verdict: Formbricks wins (brief rating: Hotjar 3/5, Formbricks 5/5), based on editorial comparison of product scope rather than a line-by-line feature audit.

Who Should Actually Pay for Hotjar (Contentsquare)

Hotjar, now sold through Contentsquare, makes sense if you want heatmaps, session replay, and surveys bundled into one behavior-analytics suite, you're comfortable being a smaller account inside a larger enterprise platform, and you want a generous free session quota without needing deep survey logic. As an illustrative example, a mid-market e-commerce team already using Hotjar's free heatmaps might add basic NPS surveys without leaving the dashboard, treating survey templates as a convenience feature rather than shopping for a dedicated survey platform. This is a hypothetical scenario based on the product's stated feature set, not a published customer case study.

It's a weaker fit if you need a dedicated, deep in-app survey or feedback tool rather than a bolt-on feature, you require self-hosting or data residency guarantees, or you want transparent, self-serve USD pricing without a euro-priced tier or a sales call for anything beyond entry-level.

Hotjar Pricing FAQ

Final Verdict

👍 Hotjar, now sold through Contentsquare, is the right call if you want heatmaps, session replay, error monitoring, and basic surveys bundled into one behavior-analytics platform, and you're comfortable with cloud-only hosting and a euro-priced entry tier. The merged Free plan is genuinely more generous than the old standalone Hotjar Free plan, and reviewers consistently rate the heatmap and recording experience highly.

👉 Formbricks is the better fit if surveys and feedback are the actual job, not a feature bundled into a bigger analytics product. Every tier is published in USD with both monthly and annual pricing, attribute-based segmentation and Formbricks Workflows are built in rather than upsold, and the AGPLv3-licensed Community Edition gives you a self-hosted path that Hotjar doesn't offer at any price.

The honest read: these solve different problems. If you need heatmaps and session replay, Hotjar (via Contentsquare) does that well. If you need a dedicated feedback management, feedback analytics, and workflows platform with transparent pricing, see Formbricks' current pricing here.
