Much has been written about how AI is killing Open Source. While it is certainly changing, it is far from being counted out.
In fact, it is more alive than ever, now that AI revealed its biggest secret to the world.
Commercial Open Source companies always operated under the insight that code is a commodity. What creates value for customers is providing the software as a service (like Temporal), providing support (like Oracle), and carrying risk as a separate entity.
"If code alone doesn't have a lot of intrinsic value, we might as well trade it for the attention of engineering teams" goes the reasoning.
